Hello there. I am wondering what vB users have done in order to keep your communities safe from people returning after banning or using multiple IDs.



A community I am involved with now using another system has a big issue with this. We can ban users by IP, but there's still some ability by the banned to come back and register without us being able to tell they are a returning banned user.



Can vB determine when a new user is a past uses some way? How can people be uniquely identified in this way, even if they use VPNs and such? (Also, how are users getting around IP bans?) Can they be tracked by their actual device or some other way?



I'm sorry if these are novice questions, I'm only a moderator and not a techie. Our community concerns a topic that makes it prone to passionate users and trolling so we'd like to be able to keep the worst people out.



If anyone can let me know what vB can do, what holes it can plug and what it cannot that would be great. Thank you!
