In your shout, when you put a smiley and it is not working you will get a "?"
In my shout, when i select a smiley and send it, nothing comes up! not even the "?"!
So when i change the utf8 in the database like the tutorial movie, nothing happens.

    any ideas?

My white screen problem persist, also have the emojis problem (???)

Tried delete all files, re download and installed again, later checked this:

    My VBShout tables:

My PHP.ini (on home directory and main site)

Error when change the .htaccess manually on root directory:

Also changed to full permission for this file and for this folder:

    core/packages/dbtechvbshout/aop

Also tried to put the line (php_value max_input_vars 10000) on different places because my .htaccess have more data than yours, but internal error persist, i had to delete the line to be able to use my forum.

    NOT RELATED (i think):
Deleted this on product_dbtechvbshout.xml because i dont like that focus
    js-focus-on-page-load

    EDIT:
i discovered that only this emoji works (the skull)

However, "cdr" is right, Smileys do not work anymore.
When you click on the button of the smileys, you see the "dropdown".
When you click on the smiley you want to send, it wil be placed in the "text input bar".
When you click (enter of whatever) to send it, there is no error, but the smiley does not appear in the shout.

    Hope you can resolve this

Something about collation in mysql table.
You should change the value of the message field collation in the phpmyadmin dbtech_vbshout_shout table to utf8mb4_unicode_ci.
    Emoji always works with utf8mb4.

In the video, I showed how to change it.
